The very first Nonprofit Social Media Summit was held on August 29th at Babson College, near Boston, MA – and what a day it was!!

The Summit was chock full of actionable sessions and high energy, filled with practical information that left nonprofits feel confident and excited to head back to their organizations and slay social media.

But don’t take it from me – listen to what the attendees had to say:

“(T)his day was the perfect vehicle to help me marry my professional background with social media best practices to help my NP define their ‘brand’, deepen relationships with existing supporters and find new ones who are likely to care about our mission. Take a bow folks! Drop the mic. Leave the stage to thunderous applause. Bang! You killed it!

In thirty years of conference-going I can honestly say this was the most idea-packed, directly-usable, highly relevant, real-world advice machine I’ve ever had the pleasure of being witness to. Seriously, the NP social media experts coupled with the front line case studies of real organizations generated tons of immediately useable ideas, strategies, and tactics. It was easily the best 8 hours of learning I’ve ever had.”

“I went into this day dreading a long day of sessions, but boy was I wrong! Thank you all for such a great day. I learned more than I could have ever imagined. I gained confidence in my skills. I enjoyed each session and was engaged throughout the course of the entire day. Amazing. I have no words!”

Major congrats are in order to @juliacampbell77 for hosting the first #NPSocialSummit in Boston at the end of August. I was quite humbled to be asked to participate, and be the first speaker to follow Julia’s opening talk, for what will hopefully be the first of many Nonprofit Social Media Summits to come. Enormous thanks to #CauseVid and #NeonONE for sponsoring — it was great to meet your teams on site! Equally as cool was the chance to screen @50states100days The Film at the VIP dinner the evening before the event ..: so grateful for all the new friends I made from around the U.S. Let us know in the comments if your city would be interested in hosting a nonprofit-focused social media summit in 2020 … #IAmHere #Boston #TeamStrub

Here are just 10 of my biggest takeaways, in tweets:

You have to lose a little bit of control.

Your story is vital to someone (maybe a handful of people!) so don’t be afraid to share it.

Use Facebook Ads strategically, rather than simply boosting posts without a plan.

Use personalized videos!

Donor love and gratitude needs to be a priority.

Get better stock photos and make better graphics using free tools.

Learn LinkedIn tips from Angela Pitter. Seriously – go to her profile and follow her NOW.

Remember the user experience when doing a P2P campaign.

Push the damn button!

A huge thank you to everyone who made the day so very special, especially the presenting sponsors CauseVid and Neon One!

When in doubt, never forget – EWOP.
