Short bio: Named as a top thought leader and one to follow by Forbes and LinkedIn for Nonprofits, Julia Campbell is a nonprofit digital consultant, speaker, and author on a mission to make the digital world a better place.  Host of the acclaimed Nonprofit Nation podcast, she’s written two books for nonprofits on social media and storytelling, and her online courses, webinars, and talks have helped hundreds of nonprofits make the shift to digital thinking. Long bio: Recently named one of the 25 most influential nonprofit thought leaders and one of the seven nonprofit thought leaders to follow on Twitter during the coronavirus crisis, Julia Campbell is on a mission to make the digital world a better place. 

After spending two years in Senegal, West Africa with the US Peace Corps, working with NGOs and local villages, she started her career in the nonprofit sector, in roles that include development, marketing, and program management. In her current role, through speaking and consulting, she guides organizations of all sizes on the best uses of social media and storytelling to build communities, showcase impact, and advance their causes. 

Julia wrote her book Storytelling in the Digital Age: A Guide for Nonprofits as a roadmap for social change agents who want to build movements using engaging digital storytelling techniques. Her second book, How to Build and Mobilize a Social Media Community for Your Nonprofit, was published this year.  

Julia launched Social Media for Social Good Academy, the first online training course for nonprofit social media managers. She also founded and organizes the annual Nonprofit Social Media Summit, a live event for nonprofits and hosts the weekly podcast Nonprofit Nation

Based north of Boston, Julia has happy clients spanning the globe from Moscow to San Francisco. She has provided keynote talks, workshops, and training to Mastercard, GoFundMe Charity, Meals on Wheels America, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and Facebook.

    Julia,
    I was disappointed with your email message this week. I love your content as it relates to my business (my company has utilized your services) but I did not feel it was necessary to include this paragraph:

    “Another way is to support legislative efforts to get automatic rifles out of the hands of civilians. It was thrilling last night to watch Senator Chris Murphy and others stand up on the Senate floor and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Hopefully, real conversations will ensue, and real change will happen. Thoughts and prayers are not preventing gun massacres. Call your representatives and tell them that it’s time.”

    I love your services, but this is a personal issue for so many of us on both sides and I didn’t feel it was the proper channel to discuss. I felt the sentence prior was enough to inspire as I look to your emails for business inspiration, which I will continue to do.

      It’s my newsletter so it’s my opinion – and it’s an issue that I feel very, very strongly about. I had to express myself – I can’t remain silent on this any longer – and I applaud the efforts of the legislators that were not standing silent. Enough is enough. End gun violence.
