☑️ Meta Verified for Nonprofits

I wanted to share some news from Meta that could impact the way you use their platforms. (If you want to stay on top of social media trends that impact nonprofits, be sure to come to this week’s Nonprofit Social Media Summit – get your free ticket here!)

Meta recently rolled out an expansion to its paid verification program, Meta Verified, now open to nonprofits of all sizes on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

☑️ What’s New with Meta Verified?
For a long time, Meta’s verified blue badge has been out of reach for most nonprofits, reserved mainly for big brands and public figures.

But now, with Meta Verified, nonprofits can finally apply for that coveted checkmark through a much simpler process. (But should they? That remains another story.)

Here’s a quick rundown of what the program offers:

  • Monthly Cost: Starts at $14.99 per month per platform (Facebook Page, Instagram Account, and WhatsApp).
  • Perks: Verified badge, profile enhancements, access to customer support, search optimization, and early access to new tools.
  • Extra Note: A verified Instagram account also means free verification for Threads—but there’s no nonprofit discount just yet.

☑️ Pros and Cons of Meta Verified for Nonprofits

Pros:

  • Credibility Boost: A verified badge can add an extra layer of trust, making it easier for supporters to feel confident engaging with your nonprofit.
  • Customer Support: Access to Meta’s support team could be helpful if your account runs into any issues.
  • Search Optimization: Verified accounts may show up more easily in search results, which could help increase your visibility.
  • Early Tool Access: New tools and features come out all the time, and with verification, you’ll often get to try them first.

Cons:

  • Monthly Cost: That $14.99 per account addd up quickly if you’re managing multiple platforms.
  • No Big Reach Boost: For now, verified accounts don’t seem to be getting much of an organic reach bump. Sigh.
  • Extra Features May Be Overkill: Some of the profile enhancements might not be a top priority if you’re mostly focused on connecting with your existing community.
  • No Nonprofit Discount: Sadly, there’s no special rate for nonprofits at the moment.
