Facebook to Eliminate Some Donate Buttons for PagesDid you get an email from Facebook letting you know that the call-to-action button on your nonprofit Facebook Page is going to be changed and/or eliminated?

Several of my clients and colleagues received this email and asked me what it means.

It means that Facebook is removing the ability for nonprofit Pages to use their “Donate” buttons to link to external websites.

An external website means a website outside of Facebook – your online donation form, for example.

This is part of a push to encourage all charities to sign up for and embrace Facebook’s own suite of on-platform donation tools.

For a step-by-step guide on setting up and using Facebook’s fundraising tools to drive donations for your nonprofit, sign up for my newest webinar!

If you are already signed up and registered with Facebook’s donation tools, no worries – you will still be able to use the Donate button and raise money via the platform.

However, if you have been using the Donate button to link to your own website’s donation page, this functionality is going away – and you need to be prepared.

If you live in a country where Facebook’s fundraising tools are available and your organization has charitable tax exemption status, you can apply to accept donations directly on Facebook.

Once accepted, you will have the option to add the Donate Through Facebook call-to-action button to your Page.

You can find more information call-to-action buttons, including how to select a different call-to-action button for your Page, in the Facebook Help Center.

Anyone know anything about the donate button for CANADIAN facebook pages? I’ve been trying to add it to my page (we are set up to receive donations through Paypal Giving Fund, the Canadian partner) and I’ve made some changes to the page based on information I’ve been given, but I still don’t get the option for the donate button. I’m not sure if I’ve missed some hoops to jump through or whether the donate button on the page simply isn’t available for Canadian nonprofits yet – whether we can only receive donations through ‘birthday fundraisers’ and the like.

I can get the donate buttons on individual posts, but not on the page itself. It appears that perhaps the page button is only available to organizations that can accept dollars directly from facebook, and that doesn’t include Canada 🙁

Thanks for the article! Can you tell me if posts with a donate button can be boosted as well?
