The very first Nonprofit Social Media Summit was held on August 29th at Babson College, near Boston, MA – and what a day it was!!
The Summit was chock full of actionable sessions and high energy, filled with practical information that left nonprofits feel confident and excited to head back to their organizations and slay social media.
But don’t take it from me – listen to what the attendees had to say:
“(T)his day was the perfect vehicle to help me marry my professional background with social media best practices to help my NP define their ‘brand’, deepen relationships with existing supporters and find new ones who are likely to care about our mission. Take a bow folks! Drop the mic. Leave the stage to thunderous applause. Bang! You killed it!”
“In thirty years of conference-going I can honestly say this was the most idea-packed, directly-usable, highly relevant, real-world advice machine I’ve ever had the pleasure of being witness to. Seriously, the NP social media experts coupled with the front line case studies of real organizations generated tons of immediately useable ideas, strategies, and tactics. It was easily the best 8 hours of learning I’ve ever had.”
“I went into this day dreading a long day of sessions, but boy was I wrong! Thank you all for such a great day. I learned more than I could have ever imagined. I gained confidence in my skills. I enjoyed each session and was engaged throughout the course of the entire day. Amazing. I have no words!”

You have to lose a little bit of control.
Love this: peer to peer campaigns are about “being okay with others being the ambassador of your brand.” — @suecitro #NPSocialSummit

Your story is vital to someone (maybe a handful of people!) so don’t be afraid to share it.

Use Facebook Ads strategically, rather than simply boosting posts without a plan.

Donor love and gratitude needs to be a priority.
2 Takeaways About Thanking Donors from @johnhaydon’s kickass talk at #NPSocialSummit
➡️ “Thank you” is not the effect of a gift. “Thank you” is the cause for the future relationship.
➡️ Donors don’t give because your organization is awesome. They give because THEY are awesome.

Remember the user experience when doing a P2P campaign.
I’m biased but one of my favorite parts of the #NPSocialSummit (brought to us by @JuliaCSocial and @CauseVid) was the case study I presented with @HomesForOurTrps for @rallybound. Read about it here: https://t.co/kwt3qm4sjB pic.twitter.com/OSSy4Gyunk
